Title: Rap A Tap Tap: Here's Bojangles- Think of That!
Author:Leo and Diane Dillon
Illustrated: Kathleen Westray, and Leo and Diane Dillon
Published: Scholastic Inc. New York
Date: September 2003
Summary: This is a cute story and poem about Bojangles and how he loved to dance for everyone he met.
Age Level: Primary (Kindergarten to 2nd grade)
Summary: I really like the pictures in this book. I think the illustrators used tissue papers in order fo some colors overlap with one another. They probably did it because it made new colors and to also show that everyone has sometihng in common (in this case, dancing). It also made great effects, such as Bojangles dancing for the people. It shows his real feet in black and his dance motions in gray. I also love the upbeat rhythm of the text because it's lively and bouncy. The reader may want to dance themselves when reading this poem! I also like the pattern on every other page that says "Rap a tap tap! Think of that!" so the students can follow along and even participate within the story. I love how everyone is happy when he meets Bojangles and his dancing feets.
Concerns: The text was lively but the rhyming lines were not on the smae page. Each line was on a separate page, while on the next page was "Rap a tap! Think of that!" Then on the next page shows the other line that completes the rhyme. It might confuse the readers and think this is not a poem book at all, when it really is.
Comments: I think this would be a cute story to reader to younger students because they can learn about a real person. This book is based on a real tap dancer named Bill "Bojangles" Robinson who reached his way onto broadway with his dancing feet. Younger students can learn about jazz music and tap dancing as well.
